Hanafuda, also known as the "King of Lizards", was a former Warlord of the Sea and affiliate of the Beasts Pirates who was defeated by Portgas D. Ace four years ago. Following his expulsion and eventual death at the hands of rival pirates, his Warlord position was given to Bartholomew Kuma.[1][3] He was also the father of Ulti and Page One.[4][5]
Appearance
A close-up of Hanafuda's face.
Hanafuda was an extremely tall and muscular man. He had thick light-colored hair, partly coming out from under a dark, pointed hat that covers most of his face. He wears a long, knee-length, dark jacket with several buttons and extremely prominent shoulder pads in the shape of raised elbows, which is unbuttoned and exposes his chest. He wore metal gloves on both hands, a belt that crosses his chest diagonally, light-colored trousers with irregular rectangular patterns with a wide metal belt over a fur-lined belt, and tall dark boots.
Personality
Hanafuda had an interest in collecting Ancient Zoan Devil Fruits.[1] He was a man captivated by strong individuals as he formed a partnership with Kaidou after clashing with him and for their shared goal, believing that the Emperor would be the next Pirate King.[4] This admiration for Kaidou was strong enough for him to entrust the Emperor with his own children, who he apparently loved.[5]
Abilities and Powers
As a former member of the Seven Warlords of the Sea, Hanafuda was very powerful, capable of clashing with Kaidou before forming an alliance with him.[4] However, he was later defeated by Portgas D. Ace. He is said to have collected Zoan-type Devil Fruits, particularly Ancient Zoan-type, as a hobby, but it is unclear if he was a Devil Fruit user himself.[1]
Weapons
Hanafuda wielded a large kusarigama. Instead of the standard iron weight, his weapon is attached to a spiked metal ball like a morning star.[1]
History
Biography
The majority of Hanafuda's life is unknown, but he was a powerful and infamous pirate. Due to this, he was invited by the World Government to become a member of the Seven Warlords of the Sea, which he accepted.
Twenty-two years ago, Hanafuda fathered a daughter named Ulti, and two years later, gained a son he named Page One.[5] At some point, he encountered and clashed with Kaidou, but decided to form a partnership with him as they shared the same goal of collecting Ancient Zoan Devil Fruits,[4] and even left both his children in the Emperor's care.
Four years before the present, Hanafuda was defeated by Portgas D. Ace, resulting in his removal from the Seven Warlords of the Sea and him being replaced by Bartholomew Kuma.[1][3] Following his expulsion from the Warlords, Hanafuda attempted to reunite with his children, but was then killed by pirates who held a grudge against him.[4]
Legacy
The Ancient Zoan fruits that Hanafuda collected for Kaidou were used to empower the Beasts Pirates' forces, further solidifying their strength. His children, Ulti and Page One, became high-ranking members of Kaidou's crew and also took Ancient Zoan fruits for themselves.
