For the chapter, see Chapter 532.

Minotaurus is one of Impel Down's Jailer Beasts.[4][2] He is an awakened Zoan Devil Fruit user who ate a fruit that allows him to turn into a Holstein cow.[5]

Due to his actions, he can be considered a supporting antagonist of the Impel Down Arc.

Appearance

In his Zoan form, Minotaurus is a minotaur with cutesy eyes, large lips, and a runny nose. His body pattern resembles that of a Holstein Friesian cow.

He wears striped pants, a leather belt with a bronze hoof shaped belt buckle, but no shirt. He is often seen with a spiked club that he uses.

Personality

A cold, heartless Jailer Beast! A monster who treats humans like so much trash!
— Mr. 2 Bon Kurei describing Minotaurus.[2]

Despite his appearance, Minotaurus is a cold-blooded beast,[2] and his savagery strikes fear in the prisoners of Impel Down.[4] He brutally bludgeons rioting prisoners and opponents alike with his spiked club,[1] often aiming at their skulls.[6]

He obeys the commands of Sadi, the chief guard.[7]

Abilities and Powers

As one of the Jailer Beasts of Impel Down under Sadi, Minotaurus is in charge of torturing and maintaining various prisoners.[1]

Devil Fruit

He has eaten an as-of-yet unnamed Zoan type Devil Fruit that allows him to transform into a cow. He has also awakened the fruit[5] but lost his personality in the process, becoming a near mindless beast.[8] Due to being an awakened Zoan, he has increased strength, speed, and resilience and recovers rapidly.[9][5]

Weapons

He wields a spiked club.[1]

History

Summit War Saga

Impel Down Arc

When a fight broke out between Pankuta Dakeyan and another prisoner, Minotaurus bludgeoned both of them and then dragged them to a new prison cell. He ignored the prisoners' cries as their new cellmates attacked them.[1]

Down on Level 6, Minotaurus administered another beating on former Warlord of the Sea Jinbe, who had refused to stand with the Marines in the upcoming war against Whitebeard.[10]

Minotaurus chases Bentham, Luffy, Buggy, and Galdino.

On Level 3, Minotaurus encountered Luffy and Bentham, who were fighting their way down to Level 6. After Minotaurus sent Bentham flying with a single hit, Luffy activated Gear Second and used his Gomu Gomu no Jet Bazooka to send Minotaurus flying. However, Minotaurus quickly recovered and discovered the escaped prisoners Buggy and Galdino. As he chased them, they happened to lead him back to Luffy and Bentham. The four of them combined their powers to knock Minotaurus unconscious.[9] The floor under them then gave way, and they all fell to Level 4.[11]

Hours later, after recovering, Minotaurus attacked the Prison Escape Team as they tried to make their way up to Level 3.[5] The Jailer Beasts were then sent up the elevator to Level 1 to get ahead of the group and force them back. However, all four Jailer Beasts were quickly knocked unconscious after the arrival of Crocodile, Luffy, and Jinbe.[12]

Anime and Manga Differences

In the manga, the spikes on his club were sharp like nails, but in the anime the spikes are edited into flat, round spikes, due to the spikes being related to the theme of torture. Also, in the anime, Minotaurus has an extra battle with Luffy alone, where it was quickly defeated with a single Jet Pistol.
