Dorry the Blue Ogre is a giant from Elbaph and one of the two captains of the Giant Warrior Pirates alongside Brogy.

Once an active and infamous threat in the seas long ago, Dorry became embroiled in a personal duel over a trivial dispute with his best friend and co-captain Brogy. This duel on Little Garden lasted for a century before being interrupted by the arrival of the Straw Hat Pirates and the machinations of Baroque Works. After finally settling their duel the two giant captains returned to Elbaph and their crew, and later became involved in the Egghead Incident to rescue the Straw Hat Pirates and bring them to safety to Elbaph.

A century ago his bounty was Beli100,000,000, but due to years of inflation and a return to active piracy his bounty was updated to Beli1,800,000,000.

He is a major ally of the Straw Hat Pirates during the Little Garden, Egghead, and Elbaph Arcs. After being transformed into a demon by Imu, he temporarily served as a minor antagonist during the Elbaph Arc.

Appearance

Dorry is a 22.6 meters tall (taller than Brogy) muscular, well-built giant with dark-grey hair and long beard that reaches down to his leather waist belt. He generally dresses in a viking attire with a helmet with eyes protector, a nevy-blue cape, grey-green pants and a white, furred, haramaki-like piece around his waist held by a leather belt, and boots adored with fur around the calf and ankle. Personality

Dorry is a good-natured giant, though his pride can sometimes cloud him from making the best judgement calls. He firmly believes in the customs from his homeland and follows them with great honor, even doing so while severely wounded.

Like Brogy, Dorry appreciates friendship and allies as he was seen aiding Shanks and his crew in their clash with the Kid Pirates. He even went from Elbaph to Egghead to aid Luffy and the Straw Hats in escaping from the World Government, becoming excited to reunite with an old friend after two years. This appreciation of the friendship would go as far as that he was inviting the Straw Hats to Elbaph to celebrate their renewed friendship and alliance with the Giant Warrior Pirates. Both he and Brogy also stand by their word and never left Luffy's side when they promised to escort the Straw Hats to Elbaph, even when they were met with enormous beasts which they had to go full out on, protecting Luffy whenever they could.

Dorry is also very open to meeting new people or associates of his friends. When he first encountered the new members of the Straw Hats, he was thrilled to see that Luffy had gained powerful and loyal crew members, immediately telling his crew to protect them at any cost, even though having just met them. Both he and Brogy also explained the history of Elbaph to Robin, Brook and Franky despite having not met them prior as well as bringing them to Brogy and his's hometown in the Sun World on Elbaph, solely because they were Luffy's crew members, showing he has absolute trust in Luffy and values the friendship they established on Little Garden. He also happily explained Elbaph culture and wonders to Lilith and Bonney despite not knowing either of them but because the traveled with Luffy and his crew.

Due to his pride, he rushed into the conclusion that Luffy was responsible for the bomb in his drink, seeing that he and Vivi were the only ones around (to his knowledge, at least). Positively seen, Dorry's pride, however, leads him to also pridefully acknowledge his increased bounty after the Egghead Incident, not being concerned after it had been increased a hundred times over.

However, when he was turned into a demon by Imu, even his loyal side and good behavior shifted, as his prime instincts as a giant came through and he happily embraced his more violent and primal side as a giant, even turning on his former allies despite knowing consciously who his crew/friends/fellow giants are.

Like many characters in One Piece, Dorry has a unique laugh, starting his with "Gegya" (i.e. Gegyagyagyagya!).

Relationships

Brogy

Dorry and Brogy fighting.

Dorry is Brogy's best friend. However because of the argument they had 100 years ago, they were engaged in a life and death battle against each other as per their homeland's customs. Despite this however, they are still the best of friends and deeply respect each other. Dorry and Brogy's competitive relationship with one another is comparable to that of Zoro and Sanji.

Giant Warrior Pirates

As their captain, Dorry is deeply respected by all the members of the Giant Warrior Pirates as Oimo and Kashii were willing to work for the World Government for a 100 years when they claimed Brogy and Dorry were captured. All the members of the Giant Warrior Pirates readily aided Brogy and Dorry in helping the Straw Hat Pirates to escape from the Marines' in Egghead.

Dorry also held utmost admiration for his predecessor Jarul, and was deeply ashamed that he insulted and tried to kill the latter under the influence of Imu's Demon Covenant so much he resolved to end his own life so he could die with his pride intact.

Monkey D. Luffy

Dorry instantly struck up a friendship with Luffy as well, after Luffy was eaten by a dinosaur and Dorry saved him. They had a relationship as strong as that of two old friends. Luffy took great delight in learning of his daily battles with Brogy, and the ever-present mutual respect the two giants had for one another. Their relationship was briefly soured when Dorry suffered an internal explosion after drinking alcohol that was given to him. Knowing Brogy would never sabotage their duel and seeing no other potential culprits, Dorry presumes the Straw Hats responsible. He and Luffy come to blows, as Luffy realizes he has to calm the giant warrior down. After observing Luffy's dedication to keeping him out of an unfair duel, Dorry realizes the Straw Hats are innocent and reconciles with the young captain. Despite this, he still goes off to fight Brogy in his condition, much to Luffy's protests. When the battle is further sabotaged by Mr. 3, Luffy makes a point to punish the Baroque Works agent severely for ruining the integrity of the giant's duel.

Two years later in Egghead, Dorry and Brogy came to Egghead to help Luffy against the Marines. They are also aware that Luffy is Nika.

Shanks

Dorry and Brogy are close friends with Shanks as he called the Emperor as "brother". Dorry and Brogy agreed to aid Shanks against the Kid Pirates.

Abilities and Powers

Initially, Dorry had a bounty of Beli100,000,000 on his head, an indication of his danger. Moreover, like other giants, he possesses superhuman strength and resistance. However, having been one of the two captains of the Giant Warrior Pirates, he was extremely strong even compared to the other individuals of his race and had authority over one of the strongest crews in the world. After the Egghead Incident, Dorry's bounty jumped to Beli1,800,000,000.[6]

As a demonstration of his strength, he fought on a par with Brogy for a hundred years and together with the latter he managed to defeat such great creatures that not even the other giants of their crew would have been able to capture.[8] The strength of the two giants is in fact such that Galdino, a member of Baroque Works who is capable of defeating a pirate with a bounty of Beli42,000,000, said he could in no way defeat them without resorting to deception, even with the help from Miss Golden Week, Mr. 5 and Miss Valentine.[9]

Dorry has a strong will and was capable of resisting a powerful blast of Topman Warcury's Supreme King Haki.

Physical Abilities

As a Giant and Captain of the Giant Warrior Pirates, Dorry has immense physical strength. Having fought Brogy on a daily basis for a hundred years, Dorry have grown strong enough to hold his own against the Five Elders in their awakened Mythical Zoan forms whom were enhanced by Imu's Covenant in terms of raw power. Together with Brogy, Dorry was able to injure and fight off two members of the Five Elders.

Dorry is also capable of easily killing the dinosaurs of Little Garden, prey he hunts daily.[10] Together with Brogy he also managed to pierce the Island Eater, despite the great distance that separated them. Even Luffy, after seeing them perform this feat, stated that the two were monstrously powerful.[11]

Dorry also survived a barrel of liquor that exploded inside his stomach, and still managed to fight Luffy. The latter also, when Dorry intended to fight him and Vivi ran away, stated that it would have made no sense to run away in front of an opponent like him.[12] Dorry's defeat by Luffy's hand is in fact partly to be attributed to the serious conditions in which the giant was living, as well as the fact that the latter had underestimated the pirate.[13] Later, despite all the injuries he suffered, also managed to immobilize Luffy himself[14] and fight with Brogy, eventually being defeated by the latter only because of Galdino, who with his powers had benefited his rival.[15]

Demonic Powers

Following Dorry's conversion into a demon by Imu, Dorry was granted extraordinary strength and an immortal body, allowing him to regenerate from severe injuries. The transformation made him many times larger than before, so that he towered over his fellow giants. In addition, his sword was converted into a trident with an extended middle prong resembling the original blade, making it resemble a trishula in appearance.

Swordsmanship

Dorry is a powerful swordsman, having enough strength and skill to fight equivalently with Broggy. With a sword, he can launch a flying slash attack alongside Brogy that is powerful enough to kill the Island Eater and also sink the Victoria Punk.

Dorry fights with a round shield and a longsword. His previous sword was called the Terry Sword, but after a hundred years of battle, the blade lost its sharpness and eventually broke. Dorry later replaced it with a new sword.

History

Past

Dorry was born on Elbaph 160 years ago. As a child, Dorry grew up alongside his best friend Brogy and alongside a young Harald, the King of Elbaph. At least 109 years ago,[19] Dorry was one of the two leaders of the Giant Warrior Pirates alongside Brogy.[20] Their crew was one of the fiercest in the world, as the crew was composed of Giants.

Dorry and Brogy are posed a question.

His life as a pirate ended 102 years ago, when he entered a contest of honor with his fellow captain Brogy over the size of the fish the two caught. It was revealed in a flashback that a little girl had asked which one had been bigger. Brogy and Dorry went to the isolated island of Little Garden to settle the feud with a duel, and have been doing so for the past 100 years.[21]

Dorry met the Roger Pirates when they visited Little Garden, leading him to become acquainted with Shanks.[22]

When the Straw Hat Pirates came to the island, Dorry hung out with Luffy, Vivi, and Karoo. When he was drinking rum that was given to him, an explosion occurred inside his stomach. He believe the bomb was placed there by the Straw Hats and began to attack Luffy.[23] However, Luffy was able to subdue the giant and he accepted the Straw Hats were not responsible for the sabotage.[24] The volcano erupted and he was barely able to stand, yet, he trudged forward to battle Brogy despite his new bomb induced injuries, but not before trapping Luffy under the skeleton of a giant Sea King, in order to prevent him from interfering. With a little extra sabotage of Mr. 3, Dorry lost the duel.[25]

Presumed dead at first, Dorry regained consciousness sometime after the battle with Mr. 3 and he and Brogy embraced, both glad to be alive. Dorry believed he survived the blow as their weapons have grown old and too weak to cause serious harm.[26] Dorry and Brogy then gave the Straw Hats a special farewell by blasting them through a legendary giant fish that blocked their way.[27]

Having put their duel on hold, Dorry and Brogy returned to Elbaph for new weapons.[30] While there, they reunited with Shanks. When Eustass Kid began attacking ships along the coast, Shanks asked for Dorry and Brogy's help.[31] Upon Shanks' command, Dorry and Brogy used Hakoku to destroy the Victoria Punk, sinking the Kid Pirates with it.[32]

Sometime later, during the Egghead Incident, Dorry and Brogy both made their way to Egghead. Many of the Marines present on the island were left highly confused upon seeing their giant ship. Upon hearing their confusion on the topic of their arrival, Dorry and Brogy both explained that they had arrived to save Luffy, while also attacking many of the Marines.[33] Both captains called out to Oimo and Kashii to lead the assault around the sides of the island, and to sink any Marine ships that they spotted.[34]

They later stumbled upon Franky, Atlas, Bonney and Kuma after Brogy smacked Vice Admiral Tosa with his axe. They were unaware that Franky was part of the Straw Hat crew and told him they were looking for the Straw Hat Crew, though dismissed Franky's concerns that they were hostile towards them. They ordered their crew members to bring Franky's group to their ship before proceeding to make their way into the main area of the island after Bonney told them that they would find Luffy, Sanji and Vegapunk there.[35] Dorry and Brogy continued to make their way across Egghead while the Five Elders appeared and confronted Luffy. While facing them, Luffy was devoured whole by Shepherd Ju Peter. Dorry and Brogy witnessed this, and quickly made their way over. They simultaneously decapitated Ju Peter, freeing Luffy, and greeting him for the first time in two years.[36]

Dorry and Brogy had a warm reception with Luffy, both glad to see him after two years. Both were also surprised to see his Gear 5 appearance, remarking that it was identical to a God in Elbaph. Upon realization that they had to make their escape from Egghead, Dorry blew his Viking horn, signaling this message to his crew. Before they could leave, Topman Warcury confronted them, stating that escape was impossible. After disorienting them using a burst of Haki, Warcury attempted to slice them using his sharpened tusks, prompting Dorry and Brogy to block with their shields. When questioned by Warcury on why they were bothering to help Luffy, both stated that he was their friend, before bashing Warcury away using their shields. The attempted attacks did not end, with Saturn shooting orbs of venom at them. Luffy used his own abilities to deflect the orbs back at the Elders, causing a massive explosion. To the shock of Dorry and Brogy, the Elders simply regenerated from the damage, causing them to realize that fighting them would be fruitless.[37]

While they retreated, Ju Peter attempted to suck them in to prevent the three from from escaping. Luffy managed to stop this by kicking a building into the Elder's mouth, but then ran out of energy and de-transformed out of his Gear 5 form. Dorry was shocked that Luffy suddenly became an old man, but Brogy offered to feed him some emergency Hakarl ration from Elbaph, which allowed Luffy to gain back his normal physique. Luffy then attempted to stop Warcury by punching him with Red Roc, after Dorry informed them that he was charging at them, but Luffy only hurt himself in the process due to Warcury's tough hide.[38] As they ran, Warcury's flames begun to catch up to Dorry and Brogy, Luffy in his Gear 5 form attempted to attack Warcury again, leading him to hurt his hand once more.[39] In the end, they decided that further attacks were not worth it, and favored simply running.[40] To their luck, Warcury and Ju Peter eventually abandoned their pursuit and left to deal with more important matters, allowing the three to escape undeterred.[41]

Luffy, Dorry, and Brogy make it back to their ship.

After running for quite some time, the trio managed to finally arrive at the Giant's ship, leaping on just as it was preparing to depart Egghead. Despite this, their success was short-lived, as Marcus Mars used his flight abilities to pursue them out onto the sea. Mars fired an energy beam at the ship, and to make matters worse, the water had suddenly taken on rubber-like properties, resulting in the boat being rocked wildly. Fortunately, Luffy became reenergized after eating, and transformed into his Gear 5 form. Dorry and Brogy both began to dance afterward as the Drums of Liberation began to play.[42] Realizing that severity of the situation, the pair stopped dancing, instead issuing orders and moving to put out the fire that Mars had started on the ship. After Brogy issued the order to quickly move away from the coast, both giants were shocked when the Iron Giant suddenly reemerged from the water, striking Warcury.[43] Their celebrations on the assistance from the machine were quickly dashed as Saturn suddenly leaped aboard their ship, latching onto the front.[44]

Dorry and Brogy led their crew in the defense against Saturn, with all of the giants quickly equipping and utilizing their shields. They all stood back and cheered as Luffy and Bonney unleashed a powerful attack on Saturn, launching him back off of the ship.[45] Unfortunately, the onslaught of attacks continued as Peter suddenly leapt off the island, intent on using his large body to destroy the Giant's ship. Suddenly, at the same time, the Iron Giant undid a knot somewhere on its body, resulting in a massive burst of Joy Boy's Haki suddenly being unleashed upon the entire island. Dorry and Brogy were both left completely shocked and confused as the Haki forced most of the Five Elders back to Mary Geoise, knocked out most of the Marines, and made escape a much easier task.[46] In the aftermath, Dorry commented on the Haki possibly being stronger than Shanks'. The two then made the decision to push off of Egghead, now having the chance to flee with all of their enemies down. The pair partied with their crew, Luffy, and Usopp, holding up the former as he weakly begged for them to save it until he recovered.[47]

Elbaph Arc

During the partying, Dorry and the others passed out drunk. Upon waking up, they discovered that Luffy, Zoro, Nami, Usopp, Sanji, and Chopper along with the Thousand Sunny were nowhere to be seen.[48] Sometime following that, Dorry and Brogy received a newspaper reporting that they had attacked Egghead with Luffy, increasing their bounties to Beli1,800,000,000. The pair were worried, as they had not intended to make a comeback, but accepted it nevertheless.[49]

Not long after, the crew arrived back at Elbaph, where they spotted and greeted Colon, before proceeding up a rainbow by means of a Painter. While floating on the rainbow up to the Sun World, the crew ran into Hajrudin and Stansen, whom they greeted. After sailing into the village, they greeted the missing Straw Hats as well, who had arrived to the village just earlier by other means.[50] After touching down on the village coast, Dorry and Brogy worked with Hajrudin to prepare a large celebration for the Straw Hats while the Straw Hats visited Jaguar D. Saul at the Walrus School.[51] Following their return, the party began.[52]

As the party went on, the crew became more and more drunk whilst other events transpired around Elbaph, including Loki being freed, and the Knights of God attempting a plan to kidnap the children. When a branch of the Adam Tree that they were on caught on fire (as a result of Loki being released by Zoro and Luffy), the group was collectively shocked to see a massive Draugr rise from the forest and strike down the fire-fighting Svarr sent to stop it.[53] Working quickly, Dorry and Brogy sobered up and gathered their crew as Ghost and Niddhoggr MMA rose to attack the village. As the villagers began to flee, the pair arrived in the Great Eirik, which was prepared to be used as a Svarr, and struck down the MMA using Hakoku. As they prepared to take the fight to the rest of the MMA, they were surprised to see Scopper Gaban, who had arrived to assist.[54] The battle continued through the forest as more and more MMA made their presence known. Dorry deduced that the Draugr MMA were akin to soldiers, while Brogy recognized many of the MMA as things children would be afraid of. As a result, they were able to easily defeat a Loki MMA, due to the children who imagined it not knowing how strong Loki truly was. As they continued to sail through the skies, they came across the sleepwalking children and firefighters, who were actively trying to put out the flames the children were about to walk into. Fortunately, the fire was put out just in time, leading to cheers from Dorry, Brogy, and their crew.[55] Afterward, the pair returned to fighting MMA, easily defeating multiple of them.[56]

The pair's crusade against the MMAs gradually came to an end as the damage to their ship began to build up, as well as their objective changing to rescuing the children that were held hostage. However, before they could make a proper exit, the ship was suddenly assaulted by MMA versions of many of the giant's mothers and wives. Given their inability to fight caricatures of their loved ones, the ship quickly spiraled toward the ground, crashing. Not long after, the crew ran into Ripley, Franky, Lilith, and Bonney, who had been running by. Upon hearing Sommers' ultimatum that the giant children would be killed if Elbaph did not join the World Government, Dorry and Brogy declared their intentions to stop the Knights of God.[57] The pair decided to form two separate groups to complete the task: one would face the Knights of God, while the other would save the children. They then set off to do so while Sommers continued to issue his ultimatum.[58]

Eventually, the crew arrived at the children's location, finding them still forced to walk forward. However, before they could act, a burst of Supreme King Haki knocked a few of the Giant Warrior Pirates unconscious, alongside the children. Having spotted the perpetrator, Brogy grabbed hold of Manmayer Gunko (unaware she had been possessed by Nerona Imu), while Dorry ran off ahead to find the remaining children. Moments later, however, Dorry was forcibly converted into a demonic version of himself alongside Brogy and a few of their crewmates. Overcome with evil, the pair set out to accomplish the tasks given to them by Imu: kill Jarul, and declare themselves as the new kings of Elbaph.[59]

Dorry and Brogy prepare to battle with Jarul.

Their goals were not without naysayers, however, as Kashii stepped up to plead with the pair. Kashii cited the fact that Jarul was practically a legend among Elbaph's citizens, and that they had always looked up to him. Brogy agreed, but countered by mentioning that Jarul's age had apparently made him weak. Dorry added on that the time for legends had passed, and that they would lead Elbaph into an age of war, with the strongest ruling from the top. Having heard enough of Kashii's pleas, Dorry and Brogy both attempted to strike him with their weapons, forcing him to flee. As the two continued, Usopp cried out to them at having lost their pride as warriors. However, they simply ignored him and continued on toward their goal.[60] They crossed through the forest mostly unopposed, aside from the occasional giant begging them to come to their senses. Eventually, they arrived to find Jarul and a few other villagers ready to face them.[61] At the same time, Zoro arrived, having cut down a few of their allies. The pair moved to attack him, only to instead slash each other.[62]

The severity of the wounds inflicted on one another allowed both to briefly resurge from their transformation. Feeling disgraceful for what they had done while controlled, Dorry and Brogy silently agreed that they would rather end their own lives as punishment, so that they could at least die with their pride intact. In a simultaneous slash, the pair lopped the other's head off, to the horror of everyone present. However, when their bodies hit the ground, they "flipped" again, restoring both to life, and freeing them of their transformation. Having come to the realization that fatal attacks were the "cure" for the demonic transformation, the pair stood alongside Hajrudin, Stansen, and Zoro, intent on freeing their crewmates from their own transformations.[63]

Their afflicted crewmates were dismayed to see their captains returned to normal, and demanded that they rejoin their ranks as Imu's servants. Dorry was forced to block as one showcased his power by destroying Dorry's shield and stabbing through his arm. Dorry was disgusted to see his crew displaying such pathetic behavior, and scolded them for it. The group began to go on a rampage, dealing fatal blows left and right to all of the demons present.[18] After a short battle, only two demons remained. Dorry accepted the apology of one of his crewmates, reminding him that he had been afflicted as well. Before Zoro could finish the job, Chopper used his abilities to somehow "flip" the remaining demons back to normal, ending their threat for good.[64] Although the situation appeared to be improving, Imu had other plans. Dorry and Brogy were among those nearby when the secret King of the World touched down on Elbaph, taking a stance atop Aurust Castle.[65] Imu teleported down a moment later, demanding the name of Elbaph's current king. Upon being told by Dorry and Brogy that there was none, Imu turned his attention to rescuing Sommers, severing Gerd's fingertips to do so. This enraged her allies, causing a fruitless attack that left Stansen, Zoro, and Hajrudin all incapacitated.[66]

So far, Oda has provided two versions of his name: Dorry was seen in the manga and later Dorey appeared in the data books.

Due to certain reasons, the entire Little Garden Arc was completely skipped in the 4Kids English dub. This created a plot hole as Dorry and Brogy's appearance not only introduced the concept of giants to the entire story, but it was relevant in certain later events concerning Oimo and Kashii.

Also, Dorry was also mistranslated as Dorry the Green Giant, when in fact he is the Blue. This stems from the fact that the kanji used for the word "Blue" (青) can also be taken to mean "Green", depending on the context.
